01/05/2005: "Miscellaneous Rambling"
Not much knitting content to report, as I've been crocheting for the last couple of days! The Seraphina's Shawl v2.0 is going along much better than the first one!
I'm still loving the 3 ply cotton that I tried to use. I finally ripped back the first shawl last night and had myself a good pout while doing so! I'm still brainstorming for an alternate pattern for the yarn. I think that maybe something really open and lacey would do the trick. I really want a stole or some sort of wrap out of this yarn so I'm thinking either a feather and fan stitch pattern or maybe a drop stitch, we'll see. I have a spring dress that NEEDS an accessory made with this yarn. Really!
I'm getting lots of e-mails from the beginner sock knitters in the Sockapalooza swap. I should be mailing out the first batch of swap partners in a day or so, after I beg and plead ask my sweet husband to help me with setting up a little Excel spreadsheet with all the info.
And now, for today's sock knitting link. A good site for sock newbies is Socks 101. This is the first site that really helped me to understand the process of sock knitting. I must admit that I prefer to do them on sets of five double points, most patterns are equally divisible by 4 and then one needle to knit around with. I personally have an easier time keeping track of my patterns when I do this. Your mileage may vary!
As far as patterns go, I don't really buy most of the knitting magazines and I'm generally awful about returning books to the library in a timely manner.
My library system is very grateful for my copious overdue fines! I'm willing to bet that I singlehandedly keep my local branch financially solvent with the amount of my fines. So.. here for all to read, my library book shame, my dirty little secret. A secret shared, at last with all my faithful blog readers, or you poor souls who happened to wander in off the internet! :)
Anyhow, my point (and I do have one!) is that most of my sock pattern suggestions will be patterns that can be found online and are FREE!!!
As far as my own project for this swap, I plan to try the Broadripple sock pattern, also online and free, yay! It will take a good deal of resistance for me not to knit this sock toe-up. Such is my love for toe-up socks! I'll see how it goes, no promises though!
Since I accidentally decaffeinated myself this morning, I'm definitely ready for a nap and will check back in later! *mwah* Have a great day!
