No Cinderella!

Just when I thought I was surely the Wicked Stepmother (and in all fairness, I may still be gunning for that title) it turns out that I am really one of the Evil Stepsisters. Who knew!
Case in point, shoe shopping.
I went shoe shopping today. Now, I love shoes, don't get me wrong. it's just that they don't love me back. At ALL.
Being a rather tall woman, from a family of very tall women (my grandmother and her sister were both over 6' tall, and my sister and I are not far shy of 6') I have the feet to go along with that height.
I am used to not having a lot of choice when it comes to shoes.
The cutoff between "cute shoes" and "dowdy, matronly, hideous shoes" is, in most brands, a size 10. I wear an 11.
I am rather used to futile shoe hunts and having to settle and make do. The last time I bought heels, I had to buy them from an online store that adverstised itself as "Shoes for the Tasteful Transvestite"
Honestly, I couldn't make this up if I tried!
Enter my newfound need for some decent walking shoes. I've been walking a few miles most evenings after dinner and I've been having some difficulties with foot soreness. I need better shoes.
Armed with eternal springing hope, and my credit card, I ventured to Shoe Pavilion today and tried, (oh lordie I tried!) to find a pair of walking shoes that would actually fit, and deal with the weird rolling motion that my feet make when I walk briskly (pronation is the actual term for it, for those of you playing the home game)
I swear, I tried on 40 pairs of shoes. Cute shoes! Girlie walking and running shoes! Aww, look.. pink! violet! baby blue!!
Of course, not a damn one of them fit.
To add insult to injury, I had to buy my shoes in the MENS section!
It's really hard to envision oneself as a darling Cinderella when you have to buy your shoes in the same department as Prince Charming!! The dreary side of the store where all the shoes are some shade of grey or black or white. *sigh*
I did find shoes, but they are the most depressing shade of grey-black that I've ever seen. All I could think about was Cinderella's stepsisters, trying to squish their big, ungainly feet into that tiny glass slipper.
I wonder if I can take my daughter's beadazzler to them! (the depressing shoes, not my big ungainly feet!) They need some paint, sparkles, anything! Maybe I need to go buy some foo-foo socks. I'll keep y'all updated on the shoe beautification project!
And now if only that damned fairy godmother would show up! I have a few words for her!
xoxox back soon!
