The Evil Eye

eyeballdog (56k image)

It's alive... ALIIIIIVE!

My eyelid seems to have taken on a life of it's own. It's now 4:40 a.m. and I've been up for an hour because it was too painful to sleep any more.
Hot compresses? yeah, I know the drill. This thing scoffs at me and my hot compresses! Begone hot compresses, you have no power here!

I'm calling Kaiser the minute they open. (8:30. I'm counting the minutes, believe me!)
I need some antibiotics. An eye patch and a parrot wouldn't be bad for accessorizing about now either. I wonder if a cockatiel would suffice. I have a few of those around.

Of course I have this damned wedding tomorrow. The flowers present no problems, I can look hideous and still arrange and deliver them, but I'm also supposed to stay on with the catering company and work the reception ! I pray that the doc can give me something that will make me presentable by tomorrow.

You know it's reallly bad when your own family, the ones who love you more than anyone, recoil in horror at the sight of your swollen miserable countenance. I can only imagine how a posh wedding party of complete strangers will react to me when I'm supposed to be handling their food! UGH. I'd run away from me in horror!

Needless to say, I'm limiting my exposure to humans today, for purely aesthetic reasons, (not to mention, I have no clue if this crap is contagious! god I hope not!)

My husband has even agreed to pick up the last batch of flowers for me at my wholesaler on his way home from work later today. This is a sure sign that I must look like death on a cracker. The less I have to see people today, the better we'll all be. I assure you! Until then, I'm doing the diva thing with the dark glasses. I sure hope it gets light out soon! I can't see shit right now! hee!

I couldn't find a suitably creepy eye pic for you, and no way in hell am I taking a pic of my own eye!
I had to settle for the doggie pic above. Believe me, that pic is MUCH cuter than I am right now! And the flowers are a nice touch, no?

Back later y'all! *mwah*

Objects in mirror may be larger than they appear!

OMG!
Never a dull moment! For some reason I've sprouted an alien out of my eyelid!
No wait, it's just a stye. Still...EW! I haven't had one of these in years. I can't even remember how long it's been.

Of course, my timing is impeccable as always! Tonight is "back to school night" at my children's school.
I get to meet all the teachers and other parents while looking like a complete FREAK!
On the bright side, I can now do a cool trick that will endear me to all my son's 8 year old school classmates. My lower eyelid is so swollen that when I blink hard, my upper eyelid turns inside out!
Cool! BONUS!!

I'm also hoping it'll keep me out of PTA duties. I figure that if someone tries to press me into volunteer service, I'll just give them an unnerving stare with my alien eye until they stammer nervously and move on to the next unsuspecting parent.

I can hope, right?

Fleurs du jour

Nothing can cheer a girl up like a trip to the flower market. Even if it is at dark-thirty in the morning!

These are some of the flowers I picked up for this weekend's wedding. Please note that they are all still in buckets and having a drink right now, not arranged! The table centerpieces will be some really cool rusty garden urn containers. I think this wedding will be beautiful. I love fall flowers soooo much!

Chocolate cosmos and some wildly expensive miniature calla lilies

Sedum flowers, rose hips and what I believe to be millet. So cool and wonderfully textural!

More flowers arriving tomorrow and Friday. I'll also be sure to post some photos of the centerpieces and bouquets once they are arranged!

Luminous Sigh

anlsigh (71k image)

Luminous sigh. This was the title of one of the MANY spam emails I got over the weekend. I know that most of them are randomly generated and totally nonsensical, but this one was like a little poem.
(I still didn't open the email. I'm not a doofus, yanno!)
Say it to yourself a few times. Luminous sigh. See what I mean?

Sigh.
That really describes how I feel these days. I'm tired. Bone tired. Not the kind of tired that a nap is going to fix, although heaven knows I've tried that approach! Most of the time I don't have the luxury of slowing down, so I allow myself a little sigh and get to the next thing on my list, whatever that might be.

I am very grateful that I have a LOT of work coming my way this season, and my business is flourishing. I'm happy that my children are flourishing as well. They are beginning a new school year and have extracurricular activities, and there's just SO much for me to keep up with! I just wake up every day and hope and pray that I can keep up with it all and not FORGET anything.
I know that I am in serious danger of overextending myself and I definitely need to start curtailing the amount of commitments and responsibility I take on. I know that this all will pass. THE list, the damned to-do list...will get shorter soon.

It's always hectic this time of year for me, and every year it seems that I am taken aback by it. I am similarly taken aback by the slow-down in winter after the holiday season, when all of a suddenI am sitting around with nothing to do and getting a bit panicky. Feel free to remind me of this the next time I have a meltdown, mmmkay?

Have I mentioned lately how grateful I am to any readers out there who put up with my erratic postings and lack of scintillating content?! I know I'm capable of a decent post or two! I just hope one day I can pull it out of my ass, or wherever it's hiding!
Anyhow, let's see what I have to catch you all up on since my last post.

I got a new-to-me van this week and retired my old minivan. That was pretty cool! I hate having to do the minivan thing but it's a necessary evil when I'm haluling flowers and kid stuff around all the time! The new van belonged to the parents of a friend of mine, who are definitely not what I'd call frequent drivers. This van should last me a good while :) It was perfect timing and I'm really pleased with it.

I ended up giving my old minivan to my sister, so she can tool around in it for a while. My sis lives two counties away, and so my hubby and I took a trip and met my sister at an Indian casino not far from where she lives. We decided to visit a bit and play at the casino while making the trade off of the old van. We had a nice lunch and played some slot machines for a few hours (penny slots, I'm such a high roller don't ya know!) We had a lot of fun! A jackpot of a thousand is always exciting, even if it's a thousand pennies! Thank heaven for paper ticket payouts. I don't even want to imagine carrying around a thousand pennies looking for the cashier cage! The last time I was in Vegas I hit a jackpot of 800 nickels on one slot machine and it took me two buckets to carry them all.
At any rate, I came out a whole five bucks ahead at the end of the afternoon. I don't think I'll be quitting my day jobs any time soon though!

Once again, I have no sewing progress to report. My machines sit gathering dust for the time being. I have knit a few repeats on the swallowtail shawl in the evenings, but nothing photo-worthy yet. I've knit a little bit on the neapolitan sock. Just a few minutes here or there while I'm waiting for the kids to get off the bus or out of school.

At least later in the week I can promise you all some new photos. I'm doing a wedding and really looking forward to doing the flowers that the couple have chosen. I'll be back and posting as soon as I can. Love ya! *mwah*

P.S. Oh yes, I almost forgot to mention that I bought tickets last night to see K.D Lang. Wooohoo!
I can't wait! I've loved her music for soooo long and I've never seen her in concert. I have a serious girl crush on her. I think that hubby will go with me to the concert but he's made me promise not to throw my panties on the stage or do anything to embarrass him. Sheesh, he's no fun. (Just for the record, I've never thrown undergarments anywhere! I did, in my much younger and cuter and perkier days, get Sammy Hagar to sign his autograph upon certain parts of my bared anatomy which shall remain nameless, but that's another story altogether!)

Back soon y'all!
