The sound of one dog barking

Well, once again, dear innernet people, I'm up early and can't sleep! Heaven knows it's not for lack of trying. There is a dog somewhere in my neighborhood that has been barking incessantly for the last several hours You'd think the damn thing would get tired after a while, but nooooo.

Anyhow, it's 4:40 a.m. and here we are, shall I catch you all up on what's been happening? A rhetorical question, of course. You all know I'll blather on, no matter what! I only have one more really insane wedding weekend and then I can put the flower business to bed for the season, which will be heavenly! It's been a great year for weddings, but I could reallyreallyreally use a little break!
I should be updating more regularly in a week or so. For what it's worth, I do think about posting a lot, and I compose blog entries in my head that never seem to make it to the keyboard!

As far as knitting, there has been a bit this week, but not much has been happening on Eris. It's been a busy week and I haven't had the time to sit down and concentrate on those charts! I've knit just a few rows on the collar and nothing photo worthy. I got sidetracked a bit by this adorable, wee baby cardi, which I am knitting for a "due any day now" baby.

I don't really know if I've mentioned it on my blog, but in addition to doing flowers and catering, I have another job. (that I *need* like a hole in the head, but hey...years and years of feast or famine freelance working has instilled in me the pathological need to take work when it is presented to me!)

I work a bit for a very nice couple as a personal assistant, one regular day a week and then on call for other things. The husband and wife are both doctors and they do amazing research with premature babies. When I started working for these folks, I had no idea of the scope of their work, and the mind boggling miracles that they are working with the littlest babies of all. They are quite amazing and inspirational folks, and very down to earth. No pretense at all.

They have a spectacular ranch on the coast here and I help them out a bit with groceries and errand running and cooking a bit for them when they have dinner parties and taking care of their animals while they travel for work. It's a sweet gig, and I am glad for it! I know I've digressed a bit, but the above mentioned baby cardi is being knit for their new grandbaby. (I do have a point here, it just took me a while to get to it, hee!)

I'm also thinking about signing up for the Socktoberfest knit along again this year. It's one "along" I did manage to complete last year. And it's not like I don't have some socks to finish up. Maybe I'll get motivated and show you my knitting basket of shame and all the half finished pairs of socks that could use mates one of these days!

(Update, the barking dog took a ten minute break and has started up again! *sigh*)

How about a kid pic to take our mind off the barking dog?

Aren't they getting big!? My baby boy turned 9 years old this week! Much fun was had by all. Despite the fact that I am feeling a bit wistful about my children growing up so fast, we had a very good birthday on Thursday and a fun party yesterday. (My house is still a bit thrashed from that!)

When asked what he wanted to do for his birthday party, the boy requested a poker party, go figure! (Texas Hold-Em, of course)
As far as his requested birthday menu... Stouffers lasagna, and in lieu of birthday cake, cream puffs and chocolate covered strawberries. Cousins and aunts and uncles all attended and a good time was had by all. The birthday boy had his best "poker face" on and he won a couple of good pots. He was a happy camper.

Much good-natured rowdiness ensued, and the party culminated with the birthday boy's mama, stepfather and uncle involved in a spray bottle/nerf gun/hose with spray nozzle war that left much of the surrounding area and all of the participants soaked. I needed my kitchen floor mopped anyhow. No harm done!
I should mention here, as a public service announcement, that a chilly evening in October is not the greatest time for a water fight, brrrrrr!!! It took me orever to get warm again after that!

(Update...5:30, still barking! I love animals but I could cheerfully throttle the owner of this particular one about now for letting it go on so long!)

Well, lots more I could write, but this post is plenty long. If you're still reading by this point, you must be at work or very bored ;)
I'm going to go make some coffee and start my "day off" duties... laundry, housecleaning, errands, bills. wooohoo!
Back soon! *mwah*
