Ready for my close-up!
Thanks to everyone for all the comments about the girlchild's Halloween costume. She's eating up the praise like.. well...candy! The boy's costume is nearing completion, and we'll have photos of the whole bunch after the party this weekend!
Today (and for a long time to come, I'm sure!) I'll have LOTS of photos, because... guess what!? As a combination birthday and anniversary gift, my hubby got me THIS new camera!
I had been sort of quietly lamenting the fact that the camera I had, while serviceable and a fine camera for what it was, did not take good close up shots AT ALL. I do a lot of blog hopping and I always swoon over the lush, beautiful photos on some of the other blogs. This was a very timely gift and I'm SOOO excited about learning all the intricacies of this camera and getting out for some photo sessions!
I also can't wait to take it to Las Vegas in a few weeks where I can act like a complete tourista and take pics of everything, even though we have been to Vegas a bunch of times. I love that town so much and we always have a great time!
Anyhow, how about a few pics?
Cuteness Ahead!
Okay... remember those teeny baby socks that I was knitting as a baby gift few posts back? Well... tragedy befell the skein of yarn I was knitting from and I stalled out at a sock and a half. There were multiple breaks of yarn needing splices inside of the skein. I sort of put the whole thing away in disgust. Those splices just were NOT doing me any favors and were really visible on such a teeny item. I was pissed, and so it was time for plan B.
Plan B ended up being the (FREE!!!)) Bitty Booties pattern from Heather Bailey at her blog "Hello my name is Heather"

These are made with some of the vintage pink wool fabric that I used in my quilt back in February. I still have about a mile of pink wool left, it never ends! I finished off the edge with a single crochet edging (I knew I was keeping all of those miniscule steel crochet hooks for something!)
I stole some wool floss from a long abandoned needlepoint project for the embroidery, and added some little bows and voila! A super cute and easy baby gift that fits the BEST criteria for gifting... it looks WAY harder to do than it really was! If you have a baby gift to make, run, don't walk and grab that free pattern!
And yes, I'll try not to take ALL my pics in close-up, but I just couldn't resist!
In other news, I'm dogsitting a sweet doggie for two weeks.
Doesn't this look like hard work?

I spend a lot of time watching some variation of this scene, and getting paid. Who knew there was money in this! As my friend Amber said the other day, having an 8 year old Golden Retriever around is a bit like having another piece of furniture. Not much trouble at all! My kids are tickled to have her with us and they spend a lot of time playing with her and giving her belly scratches and arguing about who gets to sit next to her when we ride around in the car. There are worse ways for a dog to spend her vacation, I'm sure.

And, just cause I can... another close up pic!
Happy Friday, everyone! Back soon!
