Shiny Brite!

shinybrite1 (23k image)

December is here, you know what that means! (Besides TONS of work, shopping, cleaning, baking, maniacal knitting...)
Yep, time to put up the trees! (Yes, plural!)

I've been collecting old glass ornaments since for about 20 years now. It's just so hard to pass them up when you see boxes of them at yard sales for a quarter a box!. My collection dwindled a bit when I divorced my first husband. I took pity and left some of the ornaments behind with him.

This year, my ornament collection got a BIG infusion of Shiny Brite joy when I found a bunch of old boxes in the attic of my grandparents house as it was being cleaned out. I was able to bring home about 6 large boxes of Shiny Brites!

I love the box of tiny little ornaments in this pic. It still has a 29 cent Woolworths price tag on it!
I have a LOT of these tiny ornaments, I might have to put together a wreath or something with them.

The timing of my latest ornament acquisition was fabulous, as I was able to get hold of a 4' vintage aluminum tree this year that shows off the glass ornaments soooo well! The tree is not quite done in this photo, but it gives you a really good idea of the sparkliness we have going on here!

And yes, Vicki This is a real Wisconsin Aluminum tree, from the legendary aluminum tree forests of Manitowoc! :)

This picture shows a few of the ornaments I use, most of them are old, but there are a few new ones mixed in, My daughter's pink baby block ornament with the 1995 date is visible in this one.

I also have a box of the NEW Shiny brites, by Christopher Radko, Given to me by my awesome sis in law Jenn! Love the box on this one too!

I had a nice rant all typed out but for some reason it got eaten by the computer. Guess I was meant to post about something nice today! I have a lot of work going on this weekend, but I'll be back to post soon.
Have a Shiny Brite Day! *mwah*

Knits Well For Others.
A four day weekend, no children at home, and lookie here... FIVE finished objects! Are you proud of me??

I went on a bit of a hat knitting jag and whipped up some little beanie hats for the kids. Left to right is a hat in Mountain Colors Wool (garnet colorway, I think), The blue hat is some mystery blue acrylic that I think might be Lion "Baby Soft", and the brown one on the right is a variegated shade of Woolease.

The socks on the left are a pair of pom pom anklet socks that I made up as I went along. I really like how they turned out. I used toe-up construction using Wendy's easy toe pattern and a short row heel. These socks will fit a women's size 7 foot and I used just one skein of Knitpicks sock garden in the Hydrangea colorway. (Now what do I do with the other skein!?)

On the lower right of the photo, at long, LONG last, the Good-n-Plenty socks in Lang Jawoll sock yarn.
I'm not sure of the colorway. These have been on the needles since MARCH! (I also managed to lose the bag they were in for a good six months, so they were sort of on hiatus.)
It sure was nice to finish those, it's cold and rainy here and my toes will appreciate them!
Whew!

Holiday knitting continues tonight with scarf finishing and christmas stocking-ing! And, oh happy day, the season finale of my new favorite show, Prison Break!
I loooove me some Wentworth Miller! Ooh baby!
Happy Monday, Yall!
