Thar she blows!
I had envisioned a nice, calm, quiet day at home today, contentedly working on Christmas projects and the few gifts that I need to finish up. Silly me! Here I was entertaining thoughts of a peaceful morning, a cup of tea, some fiber and sewing projects, Christmas music playing. Ahhhh.... sounds nice, doesn't it?

I went into my bedroom to fetch a spool of thread from my sewing kit, and I heard a strange noise coming from the back part of the house. Hmm.

Unfortunately, my hot water heater had delusions of grandeur this morning, and instead of merely *heating* the water, it decided that becoming a shooting geyser of scalding hot water would be a splendid idea. I was not amused!

I am extremely thankful that the hot water heater is not in the house, but in a sort of closet setup out off the back of the house. I'm also thankful that I did not go to work today. Other issues prompted me to change my schedule a few days ago. It must have been fate, because I can only imagine what things would have been like had I come home to that mess after working all day!

I'm MOST thankful that I know how to turn off the main water valve to the house, so while I have no running water (until the repairman gets here) at least I no longer have my own miniature version of the Bellagio fountains spewing out the back of my house.

Oh yes, another thing I'm thankful for...we are renters! The burden of the repairs will fall upon the shoulders of our landladies, to whom we pay a tidy sum each month. I can't even imagine paying the cost of a plumber and a new water heater this soon before the holidays!

I'm off to wait for the repair dude, and I may just get some quiet time in today yet, wish me luck!

OMG! A finished object? Can it be???

I know that this hasn't been much of a creative blog as of late. But I have been doing... stuff. Really!
Unfortunately, most of the items I've been working on in my "holiday workshop" (or homegrown sweatshop, depending upon which of my family members you ask) have been of the top-secret gift variety, and so I can't show pictures of those items, until after Christmas.

I did manage to finish one of my little projects today. I am really trying to use up some of my stash items. I have WAY too much!

This is a crocheted handbag of my own design. I used just about two skeins of Bernat Shetland Chunky for the body of the bag (two partials, and just a bit of a third new skein, so I'm guessing at yardage)

I sewed a lining with some recycled fabric that has the perfect browny-wine color of the bag and the beige color of the ribbon and a gorgeous blue that just makes it pop when you open up the bag.
I did buy the handles new, but I had a coupon for those. Bless Joann fabrics and their mailing list!

Here, my daughter agrees to steal model the bag.

I am definitely thinking about making another one of these in a different color scheme. It was really fast and dead easy to make. I may even try to write up the pattern if anyone has any interest in it.

Back soon! *mwah*
